Many firms in the AEC industry have realized just how powerful a construction animation can be for winning a job. However, putting together a Navisworks Timerliner is tedious and time-consuming. Fortunately, Assemble can make putting together Navisworks Timeliner animations easy and fast with our Grouping and Search Set Export features. The steps below outline how an Assemble user can put together a construction animation in less than five minutes.
1. Ensure that the model is properly phased and leveled in Revit. It is helpful to give your different phases and levels a two-digit numerical prefix to denote the order of construction (i.e. 01-Foundations, 02-Superstructure, 01-First Floor, 02-Second Floor, etc.).
2. Publish the model to Assemble.
3. In Assemble, create a grouping that organizes the model by Phase Created, Level, and Category Name.
4. Assemble will break up your model elements by their order of construction according to the different phases and levels of the project.
5. Export the view to a Navisworks Search Set by clicking the “Navisworks Search Sets” button in Assemble.
6. Open up the model in Navisworks (.nwc exported from Revit).
7. Import the Search Sets into Navisworks and open up the Timeliner work pane.
8. Save your Navisworks project as an .nwd file type.
9. In the Timeliner work pane, select the “Auto-Add Tasks” dropdown menu and select “For every set”.
10. Click on the “Simulate” tab in the Navisworks Timeliner work pane.
Once you are done, you should have a complete construction animation that adheres to the logical order in which your building will be constructed.
In a matter of minutes, Assemble was able to take all of your model data, break it into the different phases and levels, and export it out into a Navisworks Timeliner animation. This is just one more way that Assemble is super-charging your BIM workflows and giving you back time to work on critical activities.
